  Re-View Event Log Viewer

Installation and Setup

NOTE: While installation is a very simple process, it is left to your system administrator, since Re-View will be available to all users, depending on security rights.

Steps:

  1. Log in to Dynamics SL
  2. Double-click RV00000.EXE in the SL Main folder - this will launch the Viewer
  3. Use the Installation/Setup tab to: (this can only be done by the SYSADMIN user)
    1. Add the two RV apps to the Screen table - this allows users to assign screen rights.
    2. Use one of the three options to add Re-View to your SL Menu system. (these are optional, it can always be run directly from Windows Explorer)

And that's all there is to it!
There is no DB Maintenance, DB Update or other install procedures required.

Technical Details:

The Files:
The two executables - "unzipped" to the <solomon main folder>.
RV00000.exe The log viewer
RV00100.exe A stub app used when SM\9529000.exe is replaced by RV00000.exe

Other files copied to the main SL folder:
ctsplit.ocx A custom control to provide the app's splitter bar
rv-readme.txt Installation readme.txt
rv-install.bat A .bat file used register the splitter bar during installation.

When the Re-View app runs, an RV00000.INI is maintained in the SL main folder. It contains user specific settings that retain last used values.

The two Setup Options:
Add to Screen table (for access rights) button
This button adds RV00000 and RV00100 to the Screen table
Once added, now they can be used to assign Access Rights to users - to use Re-View

Update the SL Menu (Delta.mnu) button
This button updates the Delta.mnu file - depending on which of the four options below is selected (when using any of the first three options, Delta.mnu is first backed up to Delta.bak.SKSoft)

Only Option 3) provides for a complete replacement of SL's viewer with Re-View (both at log-in and via the Utility menu)

  1. Add below SL's Event Log Viewer (ELV)
Update Delta.mnu and add "Re-View Event Log Viewer" just below SL's entry
When logging in - SL's ELV will still be used
  2. Add instead of SL's Event Log Viewer (ELV)
Update Delta.mnu and add "Re-View Event Log Viewer" just below Solomon's entry
When logging in - SL's ELV will still be used
  3. Overwrite Solomon's Event Log Viewer (ELV)
    Do not modify Delta.mnu
Replace SM\9529000 (Solomon's ELV) with RV00100.exe (this will call RV00000.exe)
(the original SM\9529000.exe is backed up to SM\9529000.bak.SKSoft)
With this option, whenever 9529000 would normally be called, SK's Re-View will be launched instead
When logging in - Re-View ELV will be used
  4. Remove from Delta.mnu
Regardless of the above three options previously selected return Delta.mnu to its orginal state

Reseller 'About' tab:
This feature allows the reseller to put contact information on a special optional tab for easy access by the customer. This is accomplished by adding a special section to the RV00000.ini file (found in the Solomon main folder) as follows:
